FAQ - TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: What are the hardware requirements for WBM?
A: Intel Pentium III 650 Mhz or equivalent.
Windows XP or Vista.
256Mb RAM.
1024x768 screen resolution
Windows compatible mouse & soundcard.
Note that the above configuration will run the full version of the game. You do not have to minimize the number of the leagues you
will play in order to run the game like in other games.
WBM also needs MDAC 2.6+ and Jet 4.0+. The CD retail version includes DirectX and MDAC which are installed if needed during the
game installation. We did not include any of these files in the WBM Demo, in order to minimize its size. You can find the latest versions
of these Microsoft components in our Downloads > Support files.

Q: When you say "World Basketball Manager" do you really mean it?
A: Yes we do! The game includes all the international basketball tournaments that exist, and also the more important of the national
leagues and cups. It also includes more than 10000 professional basketball players and 1000 managers.  If you take into account that
basketball is not as widespread as soccer for example, then WBM has managed to achieve its objective more than any other sports
management game around.

Q: Besides the fact that it is about basketball, which are the more significant differences between WBM and the other sports
management games?
A: As it belongs to the same genre (sports management games), WBM more or less resembles the other games in this category.
The elements that make it stand out from the rest are firstly its speed, since the game runs always with full database even at the
slower machines (meaning that all the countries and leagues are constantly loaded), and secondly its ease of use even from people
that do not know much about basketball or sports management games.

Q: What are the chances to see my country's league incorporated in WBM if it's not already in?
A: If a country's national league is not already included in the game, this means - with very few exceptions - that basketball is not
developed in that country. Nevertheless, it is our goal to add to the game as many leagues as it is possible, and in the future we will
try to cover at least the whole of Europe. Also WBM 2008 version includes also a tournament editor so that you can easily
create new tournaments.

Q: Why I cannot create a new manager younger than 30 years old?
A: First of all, there are very few managers under 30 in professional basketball. Secondly, in WBM we calculate the experience
each manager gains in points, which are added each year to one of his attributes. So if a manager started the game at a younger
age (say for example 16), he would end up with 14 extra years of accumulated experience. This would not be realistic, as no one
could be a professional basketball manager at that age.

Q: Can I play WBM over a network (Internet or LAN)?
A: No. In this version of the WBM there can be a multiplayer game only on the same computer (hot seat).

Q: How good is the opponent manager's AI during a match?
A: The main problem we encountered during development regarding the intelligence of the opponent manager was not how to
make it better but how to make it worse! So the user can expect strong opposition from a computer-controlled manager
(always depending of course on the latter's coaching skill).

Q: How easy is it for someone to cheat in WBM?
A: It is actually very hard, if at all possible. Firstly, there is no save option in its conventional form, which would allow the user to
play a match again and again until he wins. Also, the administration of the team will not permit the user to take any action harmful
for the team, such as unrealistic selling and buying of players.

Q: Why I do not have the option to hire staff for my team?
A: In WBM instead of staff there are the team departments, which perform the same function. For example, if you give extra
funding to your medical department, it is equivalent to hiring better doctors and physicians. The reason we opted for this approach
is that the team staff in basketball is smaller than in soccer and also not as well known to the public in general.

Q: The history of some players and managers does not include some of the teams which they have worked with.
Why does this happen?
A: All the teams in player and manager history are clickable links which lead to one of the pages of that team. So teams that are
not included in the game do not exist in player or manager history (as for example college and high school teams from the USA).

Q: How fresh is the data in 2008 version?
A: All the team transfers up to End of October 2007 are included. Soon there will be data updates available from this site.

Q: Which data can I change using the editor?
A: Everything can be changed except the tournaments in which each team is playing.

Q: I have noticed that many players may have some psychological problem for a long time without talking about it to
the press. How can I find these players without having to check them one by one every day?
A: Go to the "Mental Attributes" page of your team's players and sort by "Morale". The players with the lower morale are the ones
with the higher probability of having a problem that needs your attention.

Q: What does a computer team take into account in order to offer me the position of manager?
A: Your season score is the most important factor, as well as the manager's skills. National teams will also take a manager's
nationality into account (i.e. they will try to find a manager of the same  nationality).

Q: If I take over a team during the season, will I have to account for the bad results of my predecessor, or it will be like
I'm starting from zero?
A: If you take control of the team early in the season, you will have full responsibility for the team's results as a whole. If you take
control in middle season, you will have to account for the results from that point on only, while if you take over a team very late
in the season you will not have responsibility even for the remaining games of the season (it is considered that taking control that
late, you are expected to show good results in the new season, since this one is already lost).

Q: I can't install the game. I'm getting a "Microsoft .Net Framework" error message "File Not Found". How can it be fixed?
A: Download and run this program. Then run setup again.
Or do it manualy:
Open Run from start menu.
Write regedit.exe and hit enter.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Icehole\WBM and delete all the WBM directory.
Restart and run setup.

Q: I'm getting the error message "RUN TIME ERROR: 372". How can it be fixed?
A: The error message <RUN TIME ERROR "372" - Failed to load control "ctlMatchMenu"...> occurs when you have installed the demo,
then installed the full version and then un-install the demo. The solution to this problem is to first un-install the demo and then install
the full version.

Q: In the "New Game" screen I can't see the "Create" option at the bottom of the screen.
A: Right click in the Desktop --> Properties -->Settings-->Advanced options. Change the font size from 120 DPI to 96 DPI and reboot.

Q: When starting the editor I get the error message that I miss fm20.dll
A: Your fm20.dll is either missing or outdated. Download the latest version from Microsoft.
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/9798/fm2paste.aspx

Q: When I start the setup.exe I get a: Automation error - #-2147221231 and then another failure: Run-time error '91':
A: On the same directory with setup.exe there is a file named scrrun.dll (Microsoft Scripting Runtime). Copy this file to your
system32directory (i.e. c:windowssystem32). After copying this file scrrun.dll, use Start Menu -> Run and type
"regsvr32 c:windowssystem32scrrun.dll" and click OK. A message should state that the library was registered successfully.
Then try to run setup again.

Q: The game crashes when I try to play a match or on several other cases.
A: One solution to this problem is to increase the game priority. Here is how:
Start the gameOpen the Windows Task Manager (right-click on the taskbar and choose "Task Manager..." or, in WinXP, press
Ctrl+Alt+Del) In the application's tab locate WBMRight-click on it and choose "Go to process"In the processes's tab right-click on
WBM.exe and choose "Set Priority" and then "High"Click "Yes" on the Task Manager Warning message box Close the task manager
and continue with the game.
